Eike Gerhardt, PhD

I am the Co-Founder of Autopoiesis Sciences, where we’re building AI systems capable of autonomous scientific discovery. Our mission is to dramatically accelerate the rate at which humanity can make breakthrough discoveries.

My work focuses on the economics of accelerated scientific progress. Scientific discovery is a fundamental driver of economic growth, yet the process itself has remained constrained by the number of scientists we can train and the time they can devote to research. I believe autonomous scientific discovery will unlock the largest commercial and economic opportunity in human history. Therefore, I’m focused on understanding the consequences for companies, markets, and humanity as the rate of discovery itself begins to accelerate.

Before Autopoiesis, I worked across venture capital, M&A, and banking. I hold a PhD focused on entrepreneurial persuasion and startup pitching, as well as an MBA. My work has been featured in Business Insider, WirtschaftsWoche, and TechCrunch. I spent most of my career studying how scientific breakthroughs get funded, turned into revenue, and grown into companies and markets. Today, I’m exploring the same fundamental question at a much larger scale: how do we translate a new abundance of scientific intelligence into economic and societal progress? My goal is to push the long-term frontiers of civilizational advancement, including curing disease, cognitive enhancement, space exploration, and extending healthy human lifespan.
